Summer season Duets
At the moment Auchroisk 1997
As Lynyrd Skynyrd’s world-class philosophers would have mentioned, ‘pronounce Oh-thrusk’.

Auchroisk 17 yo 1997/2014 (53%, Golden Cask, bourbon, cask #CM 209, 280 bottles)

Auchroisk 17 yo 1997/2014 (53%, Golden Cask, bourbon, cask #CM 209, 280 bottles) Four stars
Matured in x-fill casks in accordance with the color. Or concrete, clay, stainless, glass, ceramic, beech, porcelain, sandstone, platinum… All proper, not platinum. Color: very pale white wine and that is excellent news. Let me clarify why… Nostril: pure barley-y, doughy, gristy, porridge-y, fermentary, yeasty, mashy nostril. Put into an oven and also you get a pretzel ;-). With water: extra porridge, chalk, clay… Mouth (neat): distilled lager, actually. There’s one thing that I actually get pleasure from so much right here, it is all pure, unmasked, bare, uncooked, and intensely malty/bready. Good pepper as effectively. With water: fruits popping out. Nicely, apples and pears. End: medium, with inexperienced plums this time. In any other case porridge, grist and compadres. Feedback: typical filler, these have been its quarter-hour of (very relative) fame. I’ve a lot tenderness for these well-made but humble spirits. Pushing-up my rating a wee bit right here…
SGP:541 – 85 factors.

Auchroisk 23 yo 1997/2021 (54.6%, Hunter Laing, The primary Editions, refill hogshead, cask #17814) Four stars and a half
This one’s model new, thoughts you. Color: white wine. Nostril: one other untouched, un-flavoured, un-peated, un-wined, un-PXed, un-heavily-charred Speysider that, consequently, is allowed to show the a great deal of subtleties that it was retaining inside itself, comparable to tiny herbs and flowers (borage, dill), damaged roots and branches, recent leaves, wild carrots and celeriac, poppy seeds and sesame, parsnips and turnips, riesling and grüner (veltlinger), yoghurt and muesli… And actually myriads of different tinier aromas. With water: as ordinary, extra earth, even mud, humus, oats, recent breads of all types… Mouth (neat): elegant yeasty, beery breadiness and plenty of pepper, mead and gingerbread. With water: and there, the fruits are popping out. Pickled ones, pepper, chutneys… Nah it isn’t that fruity. Some salt popping out. Sure, salt. End: lengthy and spicier, extra peppery, a tad bitter. Goes in direction of greens and roots. Lemons within the aftertaste. Feedback: an amazing fighter al pure. Chilled on caviar or smoked salmon, with plenty of thick whipped cream! Nice bottle.
