Royal Brackla is again

I imply, on little Whiskyfun. Marketed as ‘The King’s Personal Whisky’, however he was William IV. We’ll see if Charles III will observe go well with.

William 4

Royal Brackla 18 yo (46%, OB, palo cortado finish, +/-2022)

Royal Brackla 18 yo (46%, OB, palo cortado end, +/-2022) Three stars and a half

We have by no means tried this 18 however I consider it is a pretty latest expression. Yet one more ending, seems like an increasing number of official whiskies want some extra-seasoning, or flavour changes. That may very well be a world  challenge, the SWA must be on the alert! Color: gold. Nostril: certainly, there are walnuts, some earth, some toasted bread, then gooseberries, not unseen in Brackla, and wildflower honey. It isn’t a really demonstrative malt whisky. A bittersweet feeling. Mouth: agency, nutty, with walnuts, toffee, then extra of these honeys and a rising spiciness, in direction of cinnamon. Additionally bitter nuts, almonds, bitter apples… End: medium, spicier, with extra candy and bitter notes, in all probability from the sherry. Bitter and peppery aftertaste. Feedback: the value may be very excessive and maybe even a bit pretentious (150€), however certainly it’s a superb drop, in my e-book. However I might by no means end a 18, that sends a incorrect message (like, after 18 years of cautious maturing, our whisky wanted some seasoning).

As regular, the indies are the guardians of the pure ones (I used to be about to say ‘of the distillates’)…

Royal Brackla 13 yo 2007/2020 (54.8%, Blackadder, 25 Years of Blackadder, hogshead, cask #309226, 240 bottles)

Royal Brackla 13 yo 2007/2020 (54.8%, Blackadder, 25 Years of Blackadder, hogshead, cask #309226, 240 bottles) Four stars and a half

Unsure we didn’t neglect to want them a lot good again in 2020. Cheers Robin! Color: white wine. Nostril: pure, attractive barleyness, with some banana pores and skin, plus bread, chalk, grist, pancakes and wee lemons. It might effectively not be essentially the most sophisticated malt whisky ever, however what it does it does effectively, to this point. With water: extra flints, in a Sancerre-y means. Or, there, Chablis, this might have been a sharper, cleaner Chablis from the left financial institution (say Côte de Léchet!) Mouth (neat): pure certainly. Citrus, baguette, extra pancake, inexperienced bananas, oatcakes, lemon cake… Love love love lemon cake. With water: bingo. That wee Chablis, plus a contact of spearmint, plus oranges, plus simply candy bread. End: lengthy and extra lemony. Feedback: bull’s eye, and proof that Brackla’s distillate doesn’t obligatorily want finishings. Excellent younger whisky.

Simply to be on the protected facet, let’s strive that once more…

Royal Brackla 13 yo 2009/2022 (56.1%, Fadandel.dk, barrel, cask #304130, 281 bottles)

Royal Brackla 13 yo 2009/2022 (56.1%, Fadandel.dk, barrel, cask #304130, 281 bottles) Four stars

Color: white wine. Nostril: effectively this one’s grassier, much less bready, slightly extra on contemporary roots (beets, celeriac, turnips, carrots). That is simply superb as effectively, for those who ask me, love this easy, even simplistic rooty facet. With water: identical, plus contemporary croissants. Very doughy, very good, with these roots… Even perhaps a drop of gentian eau-de-vie? Mouth (neat): again to Chablis! Not making this up! Candy barley and zesty chardonnay, plus lemons. With water: some grasses kicking in, not obligatorily for the higher, we have misplaced a bit precision. However this time I am positively splitting hairs, it’s a very good contemporary and rooty dram. End: lengthy, malty, bready, rooty and citrusy. What extra does the folks need? Yeah I do know, democracy… Feedback: why would anybody product-oriented (so, regular folks) determine to dump this superior make into some cheapish sherry or else for a couple of weeks? What would the message be?
