Evaluation: 2021 Bezel Chardonnay and Pinot Noir Edna Valley

Bezel is a brand new, second label “from the Cakebread household,” and I’ve already seen it on multiple wine listing at a restaurant. Chalk that as much as the credibility and energy that the Cakebread title brings — and the worth level these Edna Valley-born wines are in a position to hit.

Let’s dig in.

2021 Bezel Chardonnay Edna Valley – Approachable and balanced, this wine tempers the doughy high quality you get with a considerably primary chardonnay with sufficient lemon curd and inexperienced apple to maintain issues contemporary and fruity, with notes of guava and a contact of pineapple rising with a while in glass and heat. The end returns to a vanilla-driven shortbread character that comes throughout as a bit gummy at instances, although it’s by no means off-putting. B+ / $25

2021 Bezel Pinot Noir Edna Valley – One other on-the-level wine, this pinot hits the excessive factors of California expectations — some cherry, a shovelful of earth, some tea and cola notes, and a calmly chewy physique. Hints of graphite and tar give the wine some gravitas, although there’s ample blackberry character on the calmly spiced end to maintain fruity notes within the combine. Agreeable to a fault. A- / $30
