Evaluate: Shiner Tex Hex Desert Mirage, Agua Fresca, and Sea Salt & Lime

Our mates at Texas’s Shiner are again with three new seasonals, together with the second launch within the Tex Hex line (suppose Voodoo Ranger, however from the south).

Shiner Tex Hex Desert Mirage Hazy IPA – This hazy IPA, the second within the Tex Hex collection, is brewed with cactus water. I can’t say that it tastes like cactus water, or that I do know for positive what cactus water actually tastes like, but it surely does have a traditional, resinous IPA character that no fan of the type will discover unpleasant. A bit thick and wealthy, the Strata hops right here lend a ton of earthy bitterness to a beer that finally finds its technique to notes of mango, tangerine, and blood orange. And cactus, I suppose. 7% abv. B+

Shiner Agua Fresca – “Beer brewed with watermelon and lime, with pure flavors added.” Smells like watermelon, tastes like lager that has some watermelon dipped in it and a end of Hubba Bubba. Undoubtedly a beer designed for the seltzer fan, although the mixture of wheat ale with undercooked fruit essences is unlikely to thrill anybody. 4.5% abv. C-

Shiner Sea Salt & Lime – A beer with a spritz of lime and a few salt in it; this comes throughout like a Mexican-style lager and, effectively, it’s simply positive. Who doesn’t squeeze a lime into their Pacifico, proper? The salt appears superfluous however not unlikeable, the lime including a slight edge to a beer that’s in any other case innocuous with notes of corn tortillas, recent nopales, and a touch of dried apple. 4% abv. B+
