Assessment: GlenDronach Cask Power Batch 11

It’s been three years since we noticed certainly one of Highlands-based GlenDronach’s Cask Power bottlings — to not be confused with its Cask Bottlings — with Batch 11 of the lineup now in the marketplace. This launch attracts on each Pedro Ximénez and oloroso sherry casks and is bottled at full proof — although it carries no age assertion.

Let’s give it a whirl.

As with Batch 8, this launch wears its sherry on its sleeves — each of them. Deep and brooding on the nostril, notes of rum raisin ice cream, cloves, and a few darkish chocolate all make an look. The palate is soothing and so so wealthy, the essence of Pedro Ximenez with all its raisiny, nearly pruny glory. Thick notes of burnt caramel, molasses, and well-oiled leather-based mingle with a wealthy coating of spices each baking and Asian, give the whisky an unique character, the end evoking complicated notes of black tea, coriander, and a contact of chimney soot — right here fairly soothing given all the flavour that assaults the palate up prime.

If you happen to’re a fan of (properly) sherried Scotch — notably of the PX selection — this can be a must-purchase, particularly at this value.

119.6 proof.
